The common answer to "how much does registration cost?" is misleading. Government fees are only one part of the equation. Here is a line-item breakdown of every actual cost companies face today in 2026.

Base Government Fees

Filing fee: SAR 1,000 per class. Paid at the moment of filing through the SAIP portal.

Publication and issuance fee: SAR 5,000 per class, paid after substantive acceptance and before gazette publication.

Total government fees for a single class: SAR 6,000 during the first registration cycle (10 years).

Fees for Multi-Class Registrations

Each additional class is charged separately. A company registering in Classes 25, 35, and 43 pays SAR 18,000 in government fees alone.

This makes choosing primary and supporting classes a financial decision, not just a legal one.

Legal Agent Fees

A licensed IP agent charges between SAR 3,000 and SAR 8,000 per class depending on complexity. Includes: search, application drafting, examination handling, response to observations, and publication follow-up.

Fees below SAR 3,000 typically cover "form filing only" without real legal advice. This kind of saving costs more later.

Hidden Costs

Responding to observations: if the examiner raises issues, the client needs a paid legal memorandum. Contingency budget: SAR 1,500–4,000.

Responding to oppositions: if a third party opposes, a professional response runs SAR 5,000–15,000 depending on case complexity.

Application amendments: any change after filing (logo image change, class list adjustment) may trigger additional fees.

Renewal Fees After 10 Years

Renewal every ten years costs approximately SAR 5,000 per class plus agent fees. Over 30 years, total spend reaches SAR 20,000 per class.

The long-term budget for core marks must account for this.

International Expansion via Madrid Protocol

Madrid international registration: 653 Swiss francs in base WIPO fees + per-country fees. Registering in ten countries may cost SAR 15,000–30,000.

Much cheaper than direct registration country-by-country, but starts at SAR 5,000 per country.

A startup registering one mark in one class with no examination issues: SAR 9,000–10,000 total (fees + agent).
